Dr E Calonje completed his training in Clinical Pathology at the University of el Valle, Cali, Colombia. Following this he completed a Fellowship in Dermatopathology in St Louis, Missouri under Dr Daniel Santa Cruz and this followed by a further Fellowship in Dermatopathology at St John’s Institute of Dermatology, London, United Kingdom under Professor E Wilson-Jones and Dr Neil Smith and a Fellowship in Soft Tissue Tumours under Dr Chris Fletcher in London, United Kingdom. After completing his post-graduate training, he was appointed Consultant Dermatopathologist at St John’s Institute of Dermatology, St Thomas Hospital, United Kingdom in 1996 and he has remained in this post and became lead in Dermatopathology at this Institution in the year 2005. He is an Honorary Professor of the Universities of Slovenia and Copenhagen and Honorary Reader at King’s College London. He is an Honorary Member of The Colombian Society of Pathology and of The French Society of Dermatologists. Dr Calonje’s main interests are in dermatopathology and soft tissue pathology and he has authored/co-authored many chapters in major dermatology/dermatopathology textbooks (including Lever Histopathology of Skin and Rook Text Book of Dermatology). He has been involved in more than 300 peer-reviewed publications and has been co-editor and now main editor of McKee book “Pathology of the Skin with Clinical Correlations” since the third edition. The 5th edition of the book was published in 2018 and the 6th edition is in preparation. He has is a member of the Editorial Board of the WHO Skin book and was twice member in the past of the Editorial Board of the WHO Soft Tissue Tumour book. He is in the editorial board of a number of journals and is the CME editor of Clinical and Experimental Dermatology and co-editor for Dermatopathology in the British Journal of Dermatology. He was President of the British Society of Dermatopathology from 2011 until 2014 and was the chair of the Dermatopathology Working Group of The European Society of Pathology for 4 years from 2019 until 2023. Dr Calonje was one of two founding members of the Anglo-French-Belgium Dermatopathology Group 25 years ago. For 25 years he has organised two mayor dermatopathology courses, an Annual Update in Dermatopathology and a one week residential course. He has delivered numerous lectures in the UK and abroad.
