Phyu Aung USA

Dr. Phyu Aung is a Professor in the Department of Pathology and a practicing Dermatopathologist with over 10 years of experience at The Uni. of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC). Her expertise as diagnostician for cutaneous tumors is recognized worldwide, supported by being an invited speaker in >75 national and international meetings over ~30 different countries. Her research interest includes rare cutaneous neoplasms. Dr. Aung earned her M.D. from the Institute of Medicine of Rangoon in Burma and her Ph.D. in Molecular Pathology from Hiroshima University School of Medicine in Japan. Subsequently, she completed a research fellowship at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. Before joining MDACC, Dr. Aung completed her residency in Pathology at the National Cancer Institute, and her fellowship in Dermatopathology at Boston Medical Center. Dr. Aung serves in leadership roles in several organizations. Dr. Aung’s special interests are melanocytic neoplasms, rare cutaneous neoplasms, and molecular diagnostics in dermatopathology. Her work in these areas has resulted in more than 200 original publications in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Aung is director of the Oncologic Surgical Pathology Fellowship Program at MD Anderson. Her passion for teaching and mentoring—she has made her legendary among her >100 trainees and mentees. Dr. Aung received more than 20 awards from national organizations such as CAP, USCAP and ASCP
