Steven Johnson Syndrome (SJS)/ Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN) is a potentially life-threatening dermatology emergency.
95% of the SJS/ TEN is caused by Drug while the rest of approximately 5% can be idiopathic or other causative such as Infection, underlying Autoimmune diseases, malignancy, and others.
Patient may present as flu like symptoms, conjunctivitis, pain in voiding and dusky blistered skin.
SJS/ TEN is an inappropriate immune reaction to underlying aetiology resulting separation of epidermis from underlying dermis.
It highlights the importance of early detection, engaging multidisciplinary approach and good supportive nursing management that is detrimental to TEN/ SJS patient outcomes.
